Belgian Sour Beers (Lambic, Gueuze and Flemish Red)
Belgian sour beers are some of the most distinctive and traditional beers brewed in Belgium. Known for their complex tart flavours and unique fermentation methods, these beers often use wild yeast, barrel ageing and careful blending to develop their character.
Classic styles include Lambic, a wild fermented beer brewed in the Pajottenland region of Belgium, and Gueuze, a sparkling blend of young and aged Lambic often described as the “Champagne of beer”. Belgium is also home to Flemish Red ales, which are typically aged in oak barrels and develop rich flavours of sour cherry, dark fruit and gentle balsamic acidity.
